Available Adoptable Dogs
When You are Ready, We Are Here!
Our strength lies not only in the words we stand by, but most importantly in the actions of our initiatives. From the moment we started our work in 2000, we understood that by working together we could overcome our challenges much more efficiently, and that is why we ultimately decided to launch Sweetpups Nation Rescue and Sanctuary. We strive to make a positive change in all of our pursuits.
All our dogs are located in Texas, with most housed at the Rescue/Sanctuary until homes are located. All our pets are spayed, neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, heartworm tested/treated and on prevention. We provide transport to point on the East Coast and travel as far north as Bangor, Maine as weather permits. Our work cannot successfully continue without homes. The dogs normally move quickly as it seems a lot of folks want their very own "Sweetpups", therefore, if you see one you are interested in, we encourage you to pursue adoption quickly.
12 months 40-45 pounds Sweet as sugar and runs the kissing booth at Sweetpups! Lab mix (possibly mixed with mountain cur) beauty with a huge personality tucked inside that 40-pound trim body! Good with kids, cats, other dogs -- she's the absolute perfect dog for a great home.
She can run, hike, ride, boat, camp, just about anything you do outside plus she can sleep, cuddle, watch tv, keep the goblins out, keep the fireplace company..... yes, she's the all-around perfect girl!
She may take a few minutes to switch off her energy once inside (she LOVES the outdoors) but she will settle just like a champ. She may also require a couple days to acclimate to her new surroundings and the expectations of her new family, but she will! This is an intelligent dog with a huge desire to please and will respond well to the right home.
Millie sits for treats and never meets a stranger, walks fairly well on leash and is willing to stay kenneled at night if need be.
Get her while you can! With a personality like hers, she will be gone soon, and you will be wishing you had her!
Millie was once a stray and was found on a cut through road in the country, super skinny and very scared. Whether lost from owners or abandoned, we could not determine, only that she had been out there long enough to be ravenous and was begging for help.
Since she came to us at Sweetpups, she has been nothing but a treasure.
Millie recently had an overnight stay with what we thought might be her forever home, but it was reported she was not the right dog for that home as she seemed to remain anxious and unsettled, exhibiting nervous behaviors and was intimidating toward their smaller dog.
What we can tell you is Millie has ridden over 4000 miles with us on transports, remaining kenneled except for potty stops and walks. During all those miles, she has been the perfect dog. No barking or whining, no destructive behaviors in an attempt to be released form the kennel and no accidents at all, waiting patiently for potty breaks. We have also had her in the van on multiple trips into town for supplies, going into Tractor Supply stores, etc...no issues.
Millie walks well on a leash and will easily do her business, given time. She has been walked in high traffic areas with large noisy vehicles and there was no reaction. She has met other dogs while she has been on a leash and no reaction other than to greet them. She never meets a stranger and wags her tail in a friendly hello even from a distance.
Millie has been preliminarily tested with the cats at Sweetpups and there was no adverse reaction, no aggression. We cannot say what might happen should one run from her but she simply sat and watched, smelled, and allowed them to crawl all over her.
Millie runs with other dogs her size and shares the playyard and deck with Dryfus, who may be a tad larger than she is. No aggression or bullying of any kind from Millie. We are not certain what she might think of smaller dogs and we will be mixing up the group just to see her reaction. She shares the food dish and the water dish with Dryfus with no issues.
Millie is kenneled at night right beyond my kitchen door. She rests peacefully each night and waits to be let out each morning.
She sits for treats and takes them carefully from your hand, does not bark excessively, and even ignores the chickens when they come up to the fence where she is. Overall rating for this dog at this time is an "A" but we will continue to assess her while she is here. I would suggest a home with a fenced yard so that she may continue to exercise without restraint, possibly a home without smaller dogs (pending assessment) and a home she will be allowed to decompress in. She may take a few days to go from rescue into a family home but overall satisfaction is expected.
We are posting some random pictures of Millie, hoping you can get a feel for her personality. Pictures show her waiting patiently at the vet, walking on a leash in Virginia, Alabama, and New Hampshire all in areas of high traffic with loud trucks moving around, and her meeting Paddy who was an unfamiliar dog to her. No aggression. Just an overall sweet Millie Maid, looking for the family that will love her as is and allow her joyful, vibrant, energetic personality to shine.
Alligator Bait Puppies
Trace and Tolkien are the only two pups left from the Gator Bait Pups as the rest have been adopted. Yes, they truly were being used as such in a local canal but thanks to a fisherman and Mr. Sweetpups, all were brought to safety. They are fiercely loyal and work to protect their "flock" which is comprised of their chosen people. Not aggressive but protective in nature, as is their breed. Very playful and can be somewhat rambunctious but the love they bring, along with their stunning beauty, makes up for that!
Just enough Pyrenees, just enough Aussie , make these the perfect breed!
A snow squall outside. A roaring fire within. And your large, fluffy canine companion rests close by, warming your feet—or perhaps your feet are being guarded? The Great Pyrenees breed was born to sit watchfully, waiting for predators to pounce. While there may be little danger lurking between your couch and TV, this Pyrenean mountain dog is still ready to serve courageously, no matter the task. Independent of mind yet gentle in soul, the Great Pyrenees dog is a beautiful, majestic creature with a coat to die for. You’ll never need another pair of slippers again.
TRACE - PENDING ADOPTION
Ever curious about their surroundings, they check out everything that is new. That is a trait of the breed. They use those noses to examine everything just to make certain it is acceptable and not a danger to their "flock". We have learned just to hold new items (and new dogs) still untill the Pyrenese inspection has been successfully completed.

Whatever your style, whatever your favorite color, wear this shirt with us and help support our transport program while opening doors of opportunity to share the plight of Texas dogs with those who are unaware. We MUST do better! Texas is better than this! Please note our motto at Sweetpups is "Where every dog matters" but this is now modified for our Texas campaign and says UNTIL every dog matters. It isn't enough to know we value all dogs here at this rescue, we must value them across the great state of Texas to make a difference!
Texas leads the nation in euthanasia and that's just those that are reported. There are so many more that are shot, starved, die of disease, and are abandoned down dirt roads and on the highways. We MUST do better, and the first step is to raise awareness of the problem so we can change. #TEXASDOBETTER helps raise that awareness helping make it possible to continue moving Texas dogs to safety through our transport program. Your purchase can make a difference in the lives of many. Imagine the conversations this shirt will open, allowing you to speak for those who have no voice! This shirt IS their voice! We will have more "Texas" information posted on our website throughout this campaign. UNTIL EVERY DOG MATTERS.............
Making A Difference
Reinforcing our Commitment
And yes, we rescue! Many of our dogs are found after they have been abandoned, some are off death row, some are owner surrenders. While our initial goal is to keep pets in homes, given the large number of unwanted pets in our area, it is just not possible all the time. We house a minimum of 100 dogs on the Sweetpups property, which changes substantially with every natural disaster in the Gulf. Every dog receives the utmost care, is thoroughly vetted, and is assessed as to the home needed before being offered to adopters.
One Step at a Time
Sometimes an animal comes to us with special needs that greatly diminish its chance of successful adoption, whether long-term medical, emotional, behavioral, or simply age. These dogs may enter our Sanctuary Program to live out the remainder of their days, however long that may be, in Sweetpups style. We have worked very hard to provide a life of comfort for these dogs that deserve to be happy and loved, but for some reason may not be a fit in a typical adoptive family.
Helping The Community
ONE female dog and her offspring can produce over 67,000 puppies in a 6-year time frame. Realizing that we will never be able to rescue all the puppies in need, we can greatly reduce that number by working with the owners. We began the Spay Program to work with the underserved community, providing low to no cost spays, decreasing the number of litters. We believe that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and invite you to donate to this cause!
Reinforcing our Commitment
We saw the need to add a transport service to Sweetpups and make monthly trips to northern locations to move dogs into new homes. Some dogs will go to our partner rescues in other states but many go directly into approved homes. The dogs travel in style in "Sapphire", the transport van, and are tended around the clock until they arrive at their new destination. We invite other rescues to take advantage of our services when possible. Our cost to transport is roughly $100 per dog, made possible through your donations. Such a small price to give a dog a new life!
